How to play

Water can be added to this bowl, and when combined with a slight motion, the water modulates the sound to produce a dolphin-like effect. The amount of water needed will vary based on the height and thickness of your bowl. Start with about 3/4" of water and add or remove to find your preferred sound.

A note on practice

The dolphin sound takes time to develop. Each bowl varies slightly in height, thickness, and resonance, and each player will find their own rhythm of motion. Expect to experiment with water levels and tilt before landing on the sound you want. This is part of the instrument's character, not a limitation.

Sound sample includes the bowl struck with the felt mallet. Sound 2 sample includes the bowl sung at the rim with the suede mallet. Sound 3 sample includes the bowl being struck with water inside of it and then gently moving the bowl.
