Thetazen Cascara Pangi Shaker Chime Bracelet
Dimensions: 3.5" across
Weight: ~90 grams
The Thetazen Cascara Pangi Shaker Chime Bracelet is a handcrafted percussion instrument with a distinctly grounded presence — both in sound and in weight. Constructed on a double-strand stretch bracelet base, each piece features 15 Pangi seed shells — dried and hollowed to produce a deep, earthy click with satisfying resonance — interspersed with dark carved wood beads, natural coconut disc spacers, and accents of red, yellow, and green beads. Weighing approximately 90 grams and measuring 3.5" across, the Cascara Pangi has a substantial feel on the wrist and delivers a rich, percussive response with even subtle movement. As a handmade item, slight variations in seed shape, tone, and arrangement are natural and give each piece its own character.
The Pangi seed comes from Pangium edule, a towering evergreen tree native to the rainforests and mangrove swamps of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, and the wider Malesian archipelago. A deeply significant plant across the region, the Pangi tree has been woven into the food traditions, medicine, and material culture of Southeast Asian communities for generations — its seeds, known locally as kluwak or keluak, forming the backbone of iconic Indonesian dishes like rawon. Because the tree takes up to 15 years to bear fruit, most seeds are still hand-harvested from wild trees, making each shell a product of old-growth forest and time. The hard, fibrous seed shell — with its distinctive grooved surface and triangular form — produces a sound prized by instrument makers for its depth and clarity, carrying the weight of the earth it grew from.
The bracelet's signature bead colors carry intentional meaning: red evokes vitality and grounded energy, yellow represents clarity and the warmth of the sun, and green reflects growth, balance, and connection to the natural world. Together, they form a visual rhythm that complements the instrument's sound — making the Cascara Pangi as expressive to wear as it is to play.
