The Frosted Cloud Bowl is a breathtaking fusion of sonic sculpture and crystal clarity. Cloud Bowls are suspended instruments made from high-purity quartz crystal. Cloud Bowls are inspired by mid-20th-century composer Harry Partch, who broke from Western musical traditions to create instruments that captured the emotional depth of human experience. His Cloud-Chamber Bowls—made from discarded glass carboys once used in radiation labs—were suspended from wooden frames and struck like bells, each producing a unique tone based on its size and shape. Partch found that the placement and force of each strike dramatically affected the sound, with softer hits near the bottom creating deep, resonant tones and top strikes producing sharper notes. Because the bowls were fragile and irreplaceable, he embraced their impermanence. Partch didn’t try to replace broken bowls—he just rewrote the music around the new sounds. It was a living, breathing instrument set.
Our Cloud Bowls are a modern, crystal version of this concept. Instead of lab glass, they’re made from 99.99% pure quartz crystal—the same material used in high-end Crystal Vibes singing bowls. Each one has a hole cut into it and is suspended so that it can vibrate freely when struck. The hanging design lets the sound resonate more fully, without being muffled by contact with a surface. The tones are clear and focused, with rich overtones and just the right amount of sustain. They're beautiful on their own and even more powerful when played in a group.

This instrument includes a felt singing bowl mallet for activation. Each Cloud Bowl comes equipped with a built-in hook inside the bowl, making it easy to suspend from a standard gong stand or custom frame. You can hang a single bowl on its own for focused use, or arrange multiple bowls in a row to create a cascading line of tones—perfect for performances, sound baths, or in home installations.
