These Nepali handmade felted purses and bags are made from sheep wool using a long held ancient tradition. This environmentally friendly technique begins by moistening the wool fibers to soften and expand them. Next, heat is added by pounding, agitating and scrubbing the wool fibers until the natural barbs of the fibers tangle and fasten on to each other. When more friction is utilized during this stage, the wool fibers cling tighter to each other. As the wool fibers cool they create a thick and durable fabric that can be stretched but never unfelted. This fabric is incredibly soft, yet strong and is water-resistant.

These all-natural felted bags are decorated with unique ornaments or use naturally derived dyes to produce patterns that give the bags a distinguishing appearance.

Silver Sky Imports believes in a fair and sustainable socio-economic business practices. The Nepali women who make these beautiful purses and bags work in a non-exploitative environment and paid a fair living wage to help support their families. Most commercial wool is cleaned through a process called carbonizing, which uses hydrochloric acid. We wash our wool in hot water and soap instead.

All purses vary slightly because they are handmade.
