What is Bath Salt?

Bath salt in its true form is sea salt. People have been aware of health benefits of sea salt for centuries, but unlike sea salt, bath salt comes in many different forms, colors, textures, and sizes. A grain of bath salt begins as raw sea salt carrying many minerals that are beneficial to the skin. Finer grain salts work great in scrubs to provide excellent exfoliation. Larger grains of bath salt take longer to dissolve than smaller ones and are perfect for long, meditative baths.

Natural colors of bath salts vary based on the origin of the salt. Himalayan salts are usually pinkish or reddish in tone as opposed to salt from the Dead Sea, which is white or clear. Our Himalayan Salt Lamps are made from the same quality as our bath salts.

Benefits of Bath Salts

Bath salts are used to improve the mind and body by healing various ailments and helping with relaxation. Bath salts, particularly scented ones, are a great addition to your bath. They are therapeutic and relieve achy muscles and joints as well as minor sports or work related injuries. Other health benefits include healing your feet of corns, calluses, and soreness, stimulating circulation, fading bruising and minor scars, relaxing muscle spasms, and relieving back, neck and arthritis pains. These salts are also great for removing excess oil and toxins from your skin, even if your skin is already dry or cracked. The salt will help heal skin that is suffering from itching irritation due to the dryness while also promoting healthy, more youthful skin. Himalayan salt baths are wonderful for moisturizing the upper layer of your skin. It is the purest salt that contains up to 84 minerals and elements that our bodies need.

Bath salts mixed with essential oils help promote greater relaxation and help the mind by reducing stress. The salt helps with rejuvenation, meditation, and increased concentration, allowing you to feel more relaxed and able to think more clearly.

Using Bath Salts

Using your bath salt is very easy. Draw a hot bath that is not hot enough to burn your skin. Add a generous amount of salt to the water and enjoy a pleasant long soak. While pouring the bath salts into the bath, their fragrance will be released, allowing for a very fragrant bath.  Smaller bath salts will dissolve quickly once in contact with hot water. Once you have poured one to two handfuls of salt into your bath, you are ready to relax. Be sure to stir the bath salts into the water and circulate them well.

When using your salt for exfoliation of the feet, be sure to soak your feet first. You should soak your feet in a normal bath preparation with the bath salt, then use a warm dampened cloth to apply more salt. Gently rub the thickened and dried areas of the skin until they become smooth and rinse thoroughly. Apply to other areas of the body in the same manner to restore and rejuvenate the skin.

Note: exfoliation should be done before bathing. Take your bath the hour or so before preparing for bed and engage only in relaxing, meditative, and quiet activities. You will be amazed with the results of your new bathing routine!
