In Vajrayana Buddhism, Akshobhya is one of the Five Wisdom Buddhas, a product of Adibuddha, who represents consciousness as an aspect of reality. By convention he is located in the east of the Diamond Realm and is the lord of the Eastern Pure Land Abhirati ('The Joyous'), although the Pure Land of Akshobhya's western counterpart Amitabha is far better known.

Akshobhya is believed to transform the human failing of anger into a clear, mirror-like wisdom. With this wisdom, we see things just as they are, impartially and unaffectedly. A mirror will reflect both a red rose or a bloody dagger just as they are.

Akshobhya makes the bhumisparsha mudra (earth touching gesture). This mudra suggests confidence, deep-rootedness, and the same kind of determination which carried the Buddha to his enlightenment, in spite of the numerous hurdles that stood in his path.

Lost Wax Method

The Lost Wax Method dates back to 1100-1700 BC in places such as Rome, Egypt, and Greece. People from Tibet and Nepal have also used this method to create metal crafts for thousands of years and passed down from generation to generation. This traditional method allows the artist to create the finest detail when casting bronze statues. Each piece is truly hand made and one of a kind.

This time consuming process is know for being the best way to create metal crafts for centuries. Very few statues are created this way due to the time and cost to produce.

The steps in creating a metal craft with the Lost Wax Method are as follows:

1. A wax model is created individually for each bronze statue. Each important detail is created by hand in wax. Usually these models are created in pieces and then fused together by hand. Each wax model can only be used once.

2. The wax model is then encased with a mix of clay and then set in the sun to dry.

3. After the mold is created the wax needs to be removed. Most of this process is completed by suspending the mold over a fire. The remaining wax is then removed by hand.

4. Once the wax is removed the mold is now ready for the molten bronze. The liquid bronze is poured into the mold. Once the bronze has set the entire piece is submersed in cold water. After the statue has cooled, then the clay can be removed.

5. Even after this long process the statue is still not complete. It will now go through a process of cleaning, polishing, and fine hand detail. During this process every inch of the statue is detailed. From fine chiseling to hand painted 24 kt gold no detail is forgotten.

This five step process takes anywhere from 10 days to 2 months depending on the size and detail of the bronze statue. This process is demanding and costly, but allows the artisan to create an object in perfect detail and individuality. These treasures are created slowly by hand and worthy of any museum.

Since all of our statues are made using this process we can have anything created for our customers. From Tibetan Gods to Elvis to a family member we can create a custom statue in any size. Please email us for details.
